Compressed air is one of the safest, but one of the most expensive forms of energy in companies. Due to leaks in valves, control air hoses, sealing air and piping, the energy often escapes completely unused. Further energy ist lost trough unused heat generated during the production of compressed air. Compressed air generators that matched your consumption years ago are operating inefficiently with your current compressed air consumption, resulting in high energy costs.
DO YOU KNOW YOUR MINIMUM DEMAND PRESSURE?
Your minimum demand pressure is the pressure at which, even if several consumers switch on at the same time, no failures occur on the machines (due to pressure undershoots).
Energy consumption can be effectively reduced if the pressure is reduced. Every 1 bar of pressure reduction, saves approx. 8 – 10 % energy.
A reduction in system pressure leads to a reduction in leakage and ensures lower power consumption for compressors. Therefore, the cascade control used in many compressed air systems is not the most effective way to control system pressure. The hysteresis of cascade control requires different settings of approximately 1.0 – 1.5 bar for load / unload pressure for different compressors. If the system pressure drops below a preset value, the next compressor in line swithces to load operation. These load pressures are usually much higher than the required system pressure. Therefore, the first compressor runs inefficiently at the highest pressure setting.
