Why do filter elements need to be serviced and changed?

Every filter should be equipped with a maintenance indicator that shows when the filter element needs to be changed. Filter elements should only be changed by authorized personnel.

The following points should be followed for proper filter element replacement:

• Local and national legal requirements must be followed.
• Make sure the system is depressurized before attempting to open the filter bowl. (Some filter pots have a pressure release screw). Also check to see if the tank is pressurized. If so, the tank must also be depressurized.
• Use the correct tool to remove the filter bowl.
• Dispose of the old oil from the filter pot and clean it.
• Dispose of the filter element according to the country-specific regulations.
• Check all seals on the filter bowl and replace them if necessary.
• Replace the filter element. The filter bowl should be tightened according to the manufacturer’s recommendation. Do not overtighten the filter bowl.
• Clean the area where the filter element was replaced.
• Check the filter for leaks and reset the maintenance indicator.
