Air breathers protect against contamination from ambient air flowing into hydraulic systems. They are therefore indispensable for hydraulic systems. In many applications, the filters perform a central task in the filtration of transmission, lubrication and hydraulic oil by protecting the systems from external contamination.

The incoming ambient air that enters operating fluid reservoirs and tanks through openings usually contains dirt particles or moisture. These limit the performance of sensitive components in the hydraulic system.

The air breathers ensure contamination-free air supply to tanks – depending on the required cleaning class and the suitable change elements. Ventilation filters should not be dispensed with under any circumstances, as a considerable degree of contamination can enter the hydraulic system through unsuitable ventilation equipment. The choice of filter fineness depends on the system filters used. For small tanks and oil flow rates up to max. 100 l/min, the aeration integrated in the return filter is sufficient.
