FG Dust collector for fibrous and ligh dusts in the production of polyethylene non-wovens

Nonwovens made of polyethylene have a high density (PE-HD), which is built up from fibrillated ultra-fine filaments in the diameter range from 0.5 to 10 µm that are closely connected to each other to form networks. These nonwovens are manufactured using flash spinning technology. In this process, PE-HD is mixed with a solvent and heated to high temperatures under high pressure in an autoclave. The production process produces dusts and fibers that have to be separated from the gas atmosphere. The very light and fine dusts have a fiber content. This requires a high level of filtration. The gas present has a very explosive effect in combination with oxygen. It must therefore be ensured that no air is introduced into the system. The filter elements used can therefore only be cleaned with nitrogen. The dedusting system used protects downstream components such as heat exchangers from contamination. Maintenance costs, plant downtimes due to cleaning work and the associated loss of production are associated with considerable costs for the customer and must therefore be avoided.

Challenge

Our customer is a global innovation leader in technology-based materials, ingredients and solutions that are changing industry and everyday life. During the production of nonwovens made of polyethylene, dust and fibers are generated during the manufacturing process, which have to be separated from the existing gas atmosphere. The dusts that occur are very light and fine and have a fibre content, which results in high filtration requirements. As the gas present is extremely explosive in combination with oxygen, it must be ensured that no air is introduced into the system.

Special features

  • The painted filter housing with a diameter of 2.4 meters, a height of approximately 5 meters and a total weight of 6.2 tons is the largest dust collector ever delivered by Filtration Group. Due to the special application, the filter elements can only be cleaned with nitrogen.

  • 24 Filter elements 852 032 Ti 07/1-7.5: conical Quick-Lock elements for tool-free element change with electrically conductive polyester fleece with PTFE membraneelektrisch ableitfähigem Polyestervlies mit PTFE-Membran

  • Gentle and very efficient cleaning of the filter elements with compressed air via conical rotary air nozzleskonische Rotationsluftdüsen

Solution statement

  • A generously designed round filter unit ensures a low filter surface load, so that the very light dust can sediment and fall off the filter elements after cleaning.
  • Conical filter elements with a reduced filter area and thus larger pleat spacing, together with the rotary air nozzles used, ensure satisfactory cleaning results even with these agglomerating fibers.
  • Special material section for seals and other components to ensure resistance to the gas atmosphere.
  • Solid flanges and matching gaskets ensure a virtually gas-tight design even at higher negative pressures.

Customer value

  • Reliable separation of particles and fibres by the filter material equipped with a PTFE membrane which significantly reduces the contamination of downstream components. This reduces the number of plant shutdowns due to necessary cleaning, thus extending production time and quantity.
  • Low maintenance filter system ensures trouble-free continuous operation
  • By using the FG Quick-Lock system, Filtration Group enables the customer to change elements quickly and without tools, thus significantly reducing the duration of system downtimes for maintenance. Insertable gratings allow a more comfortable exchange of the filter elements.
