The production of highly viscous substances in the chemical industry, such as sealants, underbody protection, adhesives and insulating compounds, requires economical and efficient filtration to protect downstream processes in production from contamination. Our customer is active in the production of basic and specialty chemicals as well as high-performance materials. These are used in various everyday products.

MDI(methylene diphenyl isocyanate) is a raw product for polyurethane whose main task is the retention and separation of caking or possibly agglomerates from the reactor. Since isocyanate has almost no lubricating properties, the design of the bearings is quite simple. The product reacts with substances that have an OH group to form solids (e.g. water, also humidity, etc.).

Challenge

In this special manufacturing process the products are processed in complex machines and systems, i.e. applied with fine nozzles. Foreign particles and agglomerates of products constituents would lead to malfunctions and product waste here, and in the worst case scenario, cause damage to the machines. In order to guarantee reliable operation for our customers, Filtration Group supplied an automatic metal-edge filter AF 738 with optimised bearing points and a double action mechanical seal that is flushed with white oil (vaseline).
