The power of water….
can be harnessed in very different ways. Run-of-river power plants use in the flowing water of a river to generate electricity. They are base-load power plants, i.e. they run around the clock and supply the electricity we need day and night. Hydroelectric power plants convert the flowing energy of water into electrical energy. The force of the flowing water is used to drive a turbine, which in turn drive a generator. This generates the electricity. These turbines have an efficiency of over 90 percent, i.e. they make almost full use of the water’s energy content of the water almost completely.
Turbines are used to produce electricity in run-of-river power plants at high flow rates and low heads (and thus low pressure). The water flows onto the turbines’ wheels to drive the generator. Filtration Group Industrial’s customer is Germany’s third largest power company in the electricity sector. Various power units are used here, equipped with Filtration Group Industrial hydraulic filters and filter elements. The units are used to control the hydroelectric turbines and ensure uninterrupted power generation.
