Non-stop-security: Automatic filters for mechanical and plant engineering

Automatic and process filters from Filtration Group Industrial (formerly MAHLE Industrial Filtration) achieve consistently high separation results over a long perios during continuous operation. Therefore they are predestinated for using in industrial processes, in power plants or in shipping industry. Since the automatic filters clean themselves automatically during operation they do not require any consumables, do not cause any process interruptions and protect employees from coming into contact with substances that are hazardous to health. They are also durable: housing and filter elements are made of robust, corrosion-resistant materials.

Backflushing filters

Offer full filtration performance with simultaneous cleaning. The self-cleaning principle, which is controlled either by the internal pressure in the system or an external pressure medium, enables permanent use in different kind of applications. A solid construction and high-quality materials guarantee a long service-life and low maintenance costs. Precise separation quality against coarse and heavy particles in accordance with the surface filtering principle. The modular Vario system offers an optimum filter selection.

With their function and design, Filtration Group backflushing filters are suitable for ultra-fine and police filtration of cooling lubricants, as well as for fine filtration to protect high-pressure internal coolant supplies on machine tools. They have also proven their worth in process and wastewater treatment as well as in the separation of soft and gel-like particles, for example in the chemical industry or in industrial food processing.

THE NEW PERFECT SOLUTION FOR COOLING LUBRICANT FILTRATION

The AF 122 was specially developed for use in the cooling lubricant sector. Thanks to its highly efficient segment cleaning, the compact automatic filter is a cleaner par excellence. The simple design and low-maintenance construction are perfectly adapted to the requirements in the cooling lubricant sector.

Operation principle

Different cleaning principles depending on the application

Segment cleaning with internal pressure

By rotating the filter element, the rinsing nozzle removes foreign matter and dirt particles in segments. Back-flushing nozzle with the filtrate is triggered by an operating pressure on the outlet side.

Segment cleaning with external pressure

In this version, an external pressure medium triggers the back-flushing. Here too, the filter insert is cleaned of dirt and foreign particles segment by segment by rotating it 400 degrees around the flushing nozzle.

Segment cleaning with external pressure and pre-separation

An external pressure medium triggers the back-flushing, with which stubborn particles are released from the filter element. Coarse particles are cleaned with the pre-separator and are removed form the collector cone via a drain valve.

Metal-edge filters

Automatic metal-edge filters are suitable for all applications where low or high-viscosity liquids or pastes have to be filtered and homogenised. Its robust design with filter elements made of triangular stainless steel wire predestinates this automatic filter using in applications with high particle input and volume flows up to 900 m³/h. The particle discharge can be individually controlled. With available gap widths between 30 and 2,000 µm, the material variants open up a wide range of applications.

In addition to the treatment and homogenization of highly viscous liquids and pastes, FG metal edge filters have also proven their worth in the filtration of process water contaminated with coarse particles.

Operation principle

The substance to be filtered flows through the filter evenly from the outside in. Particles or foreign matter collect on the outside of the continously rotating filter element. They are lifted from the surface with a spring-mounted scraper and sink into a collector-cone, which is emptied via a drain valve.

The AF 15X model combines the mode of operationof the metal edge filter with that of a back-flushing filter and thus increases the separation performance. On a segment on the inside of the filter, an external pressure medium also loosens stubborn foreign particles that have accumulated on the outside of the filter element. The medium is washed back, the particles are stripped off.

Strainers

For many kind of applications in the industrial and shipping industry, strainers are the first choise for reliably processing liquids. The filter element is made of metal and can be cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner without any problems. Strainers are available in many different designs as single filters or for use without interrupting operation, as duplex strainers. A simple, robust design guarantees a minimimal pressure drop through optimal flow design. They achieve a differential pressure resistance of up to 5 bar.

Strainers find their special application in power plant technology, in the filtration of oil and fuels, in the chemical industry as well as in the automotive oil industry.

Types

Operation principle

The liquid to be filtered flows through the strainer filter element from the outside to the inside. Dirt particles and foreign particles collect on the inside of the filter element. If a certain degree of contamination is reached, the filter insert for the simple variant is removed and cleaned. Unlike here, the duplex filter does not have to be stopped because the second filter does the work. The employee simply pulls a lever and can then remove the dirty filter for cleaning.

Cartridge and bag filters

High-quality process water of maximum purity is essential for efficient, uninterrupted industrial processes. If the industrial water is to be discharged as wastewater in to the sewer system, coastal waters or groundwater, the purification performance must meet even higher standards. We offer high-performance purification solutions for most demanding requirements. The following industrial process fluids in particular must be efficiently and continuously cleaned. The service spectrum includes the following filter solutions:

  • Cooling water and other process water
  • Low-viscosity oil, testing liquids
  • Emulsions (cooling lubricants)
  • Alkaline, neutral and acidic aqueous cleaning solutions
  • Hydrocarbon-based solvent cleansers or modified alcohols
Types

Operation principle

Filter cartridges absorb significantly more dirt than conventional filters that is primarily due to the unique structure of multi-layer glass fiber elements that are arranged in a pleated star around the cylindrical filter insert. A support fabrikc, which is shrunk onto the pleated filter medium, ensures stability and enormous pressure resistance. The glass fiber fabric becomes finer from the outside in. This also has a positive effect on the dirt holding capacity. In addition, glass fiber is more thermally and chemically resistant that plastic. The filter retention rate is defined according to ISO 16889.
