SOLUTIONS FOR A 3D-WORLD – alphacam

Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is an innovative technology that enables companies to produce complex components and high-precision structures quickly, cost-effectively and sustainably. In times of global challenges such as supply bottlenecks and resource scarcity, additive manufacturing represents a future-oriented solution for many industries.

For over 30 years: alphacam GmbH – a pioneer in 3D printing and additive manufacturing.

Based in Schorndorf, alphacam GmbH has established itself over the past three decades as a leading provider of products and services in the field of 3D printing and additive manufacturing. The company’s broad portfolio not only includes consulting, sales and customer service for additive manufacturing systems, but also offers an extensive industrial 3D printing service.

This service provides tailor-made solutions for the production of additively manufactured prototypes and end products made of plastics and metals, enabling flexible and efficient production that meets the individual requirements of customers. With its many years of know-how and innovative approaches, alphacam GmbH is actively shaping the future of manufacturing technology and supports companies in optimizing their production processes and increasing their competitiveness. Flexibility, expertise and a professional partnership are the key features of the owner-managed company.

Challenge

Stable and clean compressed air supply!

Alphacam GmbH must ensure a constant, clean and dry compressed air supply for its 3D printers. Contaminants such as oil or moisture must not affect the printing process, and the compressed air must be evenly distributed in the branched network. A KAESER screw compressor of the type ASK 34-11 is used for this purpose, which impresses with its efficiency, reliability and low noise level.

However, the high heat development on site puts a strain on the drying of the compressed air. The existing refrigeration dryers reach their performance limits under these conditions. The use of adsorption dryers is therefore necessary in order to provide high-quality, dry and clean compressed air even under extreme conditions. This is crucial for the reliability and longevity of the printers as well as for trouble-free production processes.

Solution statement

  • In order to ensure the reliability of the compressed air supply, alphacam GmbH relies on a modernized compressed air station
  • A KAESER ASK 34-11 screw compressor takes care of the basic supply, while a modulating Boge compressor balances out peak loads
  • An additional advantage is the integrated heat recovery, which efficiently uses the exhaust air from the compressors, so that additional heating is no longer necessary.
  • Almost 100% of the energy used is converted into heat and used for space heating or other applications.
  • In order to ensure high air quality, a network of microfilters, a KAESER oil-water separator, a cyclone separator and a powerful drying unit protect the compressed air from contamination and moisture.
