New compressed air station for maximum reliability

The Winterbacher Probotec GmbH has specializied as a contract service provider in the field of assembly and packaging. The company offers everthing from small batches to fully automated production. Currently Probotec produces over 1.5 billion parts p.a. and takes care of all required steps for its customers. From production, quality control (sampling or 100 % control), storage and logistics to disposition. Probotec has been certified according to DIN 9001:2015 for serval years. The production site east of Stuttgart has an area of 2,800 m² with currently 50 employees.

Challenge

The high degree of automation makes German companies competitive – including Probotec GmbH, which has long seen itself as more than just a classic contract manufacturer. In contract manufacturing, especially in the assembly & packaging of plastic articles, compressed air is essential. An optimized compressed air supply, heat recovery and regular maintenance increase the energy efficiency of the plants.

Without pneumatics, an automated industrial production process is hardly imaginable today. Speed, precision and flexibility play an important role here. Especially in manufacturing and industry, compressed air is an indispensable, clean and flexbile energy source.

Solution statement

  • At Probotec, the compressed air is used among other things, for the assembly and packaging of plastic articles.
  • All three KAESER compressed air systems of the BSD T & CSD T series have an integrated refrigeration dryer, which operates highly efficiently thanks to its energy-saving control. This ensurs a reliable compressed air supply and compressed air quality.
  • Since 2021, a frequency-controlled KAESER screw compressor of the CSD(X) series has supplemented the compressed air station at Probotec. The unit is equipped with a synchronous reluctance motor as well as the Sigma profile. For Probotec, this means that significant energy-cost savings are achieved, especially in the partial load range, compared to the previous solutions wiht asynchronous motors.
  • The 2x 5.000-liter KAESER compressed air tanks used at this station compensate for consumption peaks, minimize the switching frequency, and thus increase the service life and efficiency of the compressors.

Customer value

  • If compressed air were not available even temporarily, Probotec would not be able to guarantee its availability to deliver 100 %.
  • The highest performance factors of Probotec’s customers as well as time savings and the quick response to new market requirements and demands are the be-all and end-all in contract manufacturing. Therefore, the absolute reliabilityof the compressed air supply is an absolute must.
  • The biggest advantage is an efficiency improvement in the partial load range of around ten percent.
  • The operating pressure remains constant within a range of only +/- 0.1 bar. The lowering of the minimum pressure that this makes possible saves energy and thus cash.
  • The use of KAESER filters ensures reliable and energy-efficient compressed air treatment in line with demand, as well as reducing wear at end users.
