Current subsidy increases to max. 50%.

Startseite Service Support programs
UP TO 50 % GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CURRENT BAFA funding – VALID FROM 02/15/24!

Which companies can apply for funding in Module 1 and what is the funding rate?

  • Small companies (up to 50 employees) / funding rate: 25%
  • Medium-sized companies (up to 250 employees) / funding rate: 20%
  • Large companies – no funding possible!

ATTENTION: The amount of funding relates to the total investment costs and is carried out via Article 38 of the GBER and not via de minimis.

Which products are supported in Module 1?

  • Compressed air generator (only replacement of existing systems = replacement investment, no new investment)
  • Higher-level control (retrofitting)
  • Heat recovery (only retrofitting, no new investment); The prerequisite for funding is that the system has been in existence for at least five years

What other conditions must be taken into account when funding a compressed air generator (Module 1)?

Only the replacement of existing systems that are being used by the applicant company on its own premises and are fully functional at the time of the application will be funded. The systems must have been in the company’s inventory for at least five years. A photo of the existing system must be submitted when submitting the application. If the existing system is sold, the eligible costs are reduced by the amount of the sales proceeds.

Will refrigeration dryers continue to be funded in conjunction with an eligible compressor (Module 1)?

Only refrigeration dryers that use refrigerants with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than 150 will be funded. This means that adsorption dryers can continue to be funded in conjunction with an eligible compressor. The Secotec, Kryosec or Hybritec refrigeration dryer series as well as compressors with an attached refrigeration dryer are no longer eligible for funding.

When can the eligible system be ordered?

The system may only be ordered after receipt of the funding notification. If the system is ordered beforehand, this will be detrimental to the funding.

How long is the period for the implementation of the measure?

The approval period is 36 months.

FOR COMPRESSORS FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

The successful “Federal Support for Energy Efficiency in Industry” (EEW) will be supplemented by new funding opportunities for resource efficiency and transformation concepts as of November 01,2021. In addition to an expansion of module 4 to include the funding element of resource efficiency, the funding program will also be supplemented by a fifth module – the funding of transformation concepts. In addition, measures for the off-site use of waste heat will be funded at a higher rate in the future and the funding cap for SMEs will be increased.

The German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) is extending the program until June 30, 2024 as part of the amendment, with an option until Dec. 31, 2026

BAFA funding for compressed air technology

01

Saving costs with state support

The BAFA guideline for investment subsidies for the use of highly efficient cross-sectional technologies has been extended.

According to the BAFA guidelines for investment subsidies for the use of highly efficient cross-sectional technologies, you can submit a BAFA subsidy application until June 30, 2024. If this is approved, up to 50% of the investment costs can be reimbursed by the state.

Take the opportunity now and replace your old unit with a new compressor and benefit from the government subsidy. The advantage is quite obvious: You protect the environment with a new compressed air system thanks to a new energy-efficient device. In addition, energy costs are permanently reduced by the use of a more energy-efficient device and you receive 50% of the costs back from the state through the investment subsidy.

02

Grant for efficient compressed air

From now on, subsidized measures under Module 4 are open to all technologies and are no longer technology-specific. The additional form “early start of measures” for the BAFA application for funding of cross-sectional technologies in module 1 is no longer required. You can therefore start implementing the planned measure – at your own financial risk – after BAFA has received the application or wait for the decision (notification of grant).

Up to 40 % of the funding is available for replacement or new purchases of compressed air systems (screw compressors and the KAESER i.Comp & 9 piston compressors) and retrofits of higher-level control systems, compressors with speed control, insulation of systems and systems of heat recovery. This includes initial investments in an ultrasonic measuring device for detecting leaks (leakage measuring device).

ATTENTION:

An application to BAFA is the prerequisite for subsidies. The order of your compressor is possible without problems after receipt of the grant notification (approx. 2 – 6 weeks).

03

Which technologies are subsidized by BAFA?

04

What are the requirements for an application?

HIGH-EFFICIENCY COMPRESSORS

The pressure level must be in the range between 4 and 15 bar gauge. The compressor must have an efficiency in compressed air production, depending on the pressure level, in accordance with the average specific power value according to tables 2 and 3 (see leaflet Module 1 – Cross sectional technologies). The specific power value shall be determined according to the specifications of ISO 1217:2009 Annex C/E. Refrigeration dryers shall not be considered in the determination. For speed-controlled compressors, the specific power consumption is determined in relation to the best point.

SUPERORDINATE CONTROL FOR MULTIPLE COMPRESSORS

In the case of several individual compressors delivering in parallel into the same consumer network, a higher-level control system must take over the operating mode of the individual compressors for the energy-optimized coverage of the compressed air demand (e.g. operation in a common pressure band).

ULTRASONIC METER

Funding is povided exclusively in combination without another funded measure in accordance with item 1.4. A maximum of one leakage device with net investment costs of a maximum of 500 euros is eligible for funding per applicant.

HEAT RECOVERY

The thermal recovery capacity must correspond to at least 70 % of the electrically absorbed power of the compressor in nominal operation.

INFO

Technologies that bring about structural changes in the economy as a whole, i.e. in many sectors of the economy and across many value chains, are so-called cross-cutting technologies. They are associated with significant productivity effects and exemplary energy efficiency, as is the case with eligible compressors.

Characteristics and criteria

MODULE 1: HIGH-EFFICIENCY CROSS-SECTION TECHNOLOGIES

  • Anyone who wants to optimize, expand or replace their existing compressed air system or even invest in a completely new system can count on BAFA funding up to 200,000 euros (per location).
  • Compared to the funding of individual measures, in the systemic optimization not only the compressor but also the complete periphery such as refrigeration dryer, filter, compressed air tank, heat recovery and compressed air network including installation can be funded at 30 %. Small companies (up to 50 employees) and micro-enterprises (up to 10 employees) receive an additional bonus of 10% on top of the 40% subsidy that was previously possible. This means that a maximum subsidy of 50% is possible.
  • Medium-sized companies will continue to receive a maximum subsidy of 40%.
  • Larger companies (500 employees or more) now receive a 30% subsidy.
  • A maximum funding amount of 200,000 euros per project applies to this module.
  • Subsidized ancillary costs may not exceed 30% of the investment sum.
  • Based on a company-specific energy-saving concept by an energy consultant (BAFA approval), the replacement as well as the new acquisition of eligible cross-sectional technologies in the optimization of technical systems is subsidized.
  • In addition, measures can be funded that contribute to improving the energy efficiency of a cross-sectional technology, taking into account the system connection.
  • A prerequisite for the subsidy is that at least one new compressor is also purchased in the system as part of the improvement in overall energy efficiency.
  • Only investments with a net investment volume at least 2,000 euros can benefit from the BAFA subsidy.

MODULE 4: ENERGY-RELATED OPTIMIZATION OF PLANTS AND PROCESS

  • Investment measures for the energy optimization of industrial and commercial plants and processes to increase energy efficiency as well as for the use of heat from renewable energies and waste heat for commercial processes in companies are funded.
  • The subsidized measures are open to technology in this context (e.g. blowers). A qualified savings concept by an energy consultant (BAFA approval), by the company itself (DIN EN 50001) or EMAS – certified energy and environmental management system is the prerequisite for this. The energy saving must be proven, but no more than 25 % is required.
  • Small companies (up to 50 employees) and micro-enterprises (up to 10 employees) receive an additional bonus of 10% on top of the 40% subsidy previously possible. This means that a maximum subsidy of 50% is possible. The investment grant in module 4 is based on the CO2 savings. From now on, this amounts to a maximum of 1200 euros per ton of CO2 saved per year for small and micro enterprises.
  • For medium-sized companies, the investment subsidy is max. 40 %. Max. 900 euros per ton of CO 2 saved per year. Amount of ancillary costs is not capped. Maximum subsidy amount is 10 million euros per project.
  • Larger companies (500 employees or more) now receive a 30% subsidy. The investment grant amounts to a maximum of 500 euros per ton of CO2 saved per year.
  • A maximum investment grant of 15 million euros per project applies to this module.
