Compressed air within the framework of a contracting agreement

A customer of KAESER Kompressoren SE specialising in the manufacture of wear-resistant tools uses a large amount of compressed air in its extruder technology. Thanks to the contracting agreement with KAESER, the purchase is a cost-effective affair.

The company manufactures wear-restistant tool components for the sand-lime brick industry and for foundries, punching tools as well as pressing tools for the electrical industry.

Challenge

When stress relieveing, delivered sheets must first be freed from the stresses induced during the rolling process. This is where compressed air comes into play. It is omnipresent in the company. Without compressed air, nothing works here – because air is used everywhere for hardening, grinding, milling or finishing. The biggest customers are the grinding centres because they have their own pressure vessels. In order achieve maximum evenness, the workpiece to be sanded moves under the compressed air-controlled sanding unit.

Since the capacities are fully exhausted and some of the older compressors no longer meet the current requirements, new equipment was to be used. The employees in the company were rather sceptical about the new machines, because more powerful machines are always associated with more noise.

Solution statement

  • KAESER selected three KAESER ASD 47 T series rotary screw compressors with integrated energy-saving refrigerant dryers for this application
  • The new KAESER compressed air system was installed next to the hardening shop.
  • The plant is controlled by a KAESER SIGMA AIR MANAGER control system
  • The customer opted for a KAESER SIGMA AIR-UTILITY contracting agreement for this application

Customer value

  • Minimal noise emissions due to the use of trimmed KAESER machines, as the noise level in the adjacent factory buildings is significantly higher
  • The use of the KAESER SIGMA AIR MANAGER makes the plant maximally energy efficient
  • Thanks to a contracting agreement, the user only pays for the compressed air
  • No investment costs
  • No capitalisation of the plant in the balance sheet
  • Compressed air costs are immediately tax-deductible as operating expenses
  • No additional personnel resources required for operation and maintenance
  • Continuous further development of the systems by KAESER
