Competent compressed air supply by frequency-controlled screw compressors in the production of puffed wafers from rice, maize and multigrain.

The customer of KAESER is a Dutch family-owned company with a long tradition and a distinguished pedigree. The company produces private label rice, maize and multigrain wafers worldwide. The company pays attention to sustainability in the production of its products. The products are produced in different flavours, sizes and shapes. Raw materials such as rice, corn, spelt, oats, quinoa and buckwheat are used.

The company is proud to be able to trace its raw materials back to the source. More than half of the raw materials used are organic. This puts the company on the road to success with BIO, because the raw materials are gluten-free or vegetarian and are used under the FairTrade and UTZ quality labels.

Challenge

Careful selection of the raw materials and production process are the basis for success. This is why most of the machies at KAESER’s customer site are developed in-house, including the ovens in which the wafers are baked at high temperatures. The wafers are given their round, shapr-edged shape by pneumatically operated moulds. Internal conveyor lines take the wafers from the ovens to further processing stations, such as for coating with chocolate, or directly to the packaging lines. Since different types of packaging are in use, specific modules are used that are linked to the production line depending on the type of packaging. This creats a lean production line.

Here, the highest quality requirements are paramount. The requirements also apply to the provision of compressed air, which is used in a wide variety of production steps. Especially in the ovens, all movements are pneumatically controlled, and there is also a lot of pneumatics in the packaging lines. Without compressed air, the factory would not function.

Solution statement

  • The existing compressors could no longer cover the compressed air requirements of the new production plant, which was more than twice the size.
  • For this project, KAESER Kompressoren opted for a frequency-controlled KAESER DSDX 302 SFC screw compressor and two fixed-speed KAESER DSDX 305 screw compressors.
  • All compressors used are equipped with heat exchangers.
  • The strict quality requirements of the compressed air according to DIN ISO 8573-1 are ensured by downstream dryers and filters.
  • A large KAESER compressed air tank ensures stable pressure in the system.

  • The thermal energy generated by the compressors is used to heat process or cleaning water.
